Case Studies
Brisbane International Airport
Queensland, Australia

Brisbane International Airport is the major tourist and commercial gateway to Queensland – Australia’s sunshine state, with over 4.1 million passengers and 14,000 aircraft movements during 2008. Part of a planned expansion in 2007 included a significant upgrade to the terminal, traffic management and parking systems.
To provide sufficient parking for the number of passengers, a five level, 1500 park Multi Level Car Park (MLCP) was built adjacent to the International Terminal. It boasts “state of the art” facilities including a Siemens CCTV system, Skidata barrier controls and parking ticket systems and departure and arrival monitors on each level. The design is wide and uncluttered and a Metereye sign guidance system with floor mounted VDS units and digital aisle and level signs has been installed to assist drivers to find available parks in the shortest possible time.
At the entrance a digital entrance sign displays the available parks on each level. On each level, directional signs display the number of available parks in each aisle meaning parkers do not have to “hunt” for parks and neither do they hold up other drivers for the same reason. This has significantly reduced the time and stress involved in finding a vacant space in such a busy facility and has sped up vehicle movements around the MLCP making it quicker and easier to enter and leave the car park.
The Brisbane International Airport MLCP was officially opened in early 2008 by the Australian Prime Minister amid nationwide publicity.
Optus Head Office Campus
Sydney, Australia

Late 2007 saw the commissioning of a new Head Office for Optus Australia. In North Ryde on Sydney’s North Shore and housing some 5000 employees in six low-rise ultra-modern buildings the complex is a flagship facility for Optus and sets the standard in Australia for employee friendly, low environmental impact workplaces. As befits a leading telecommunications company such as Optus the buildings are hi-tech and optimised for employee comfort and maximum productivity.
The development includes a two level, 1600 bay underground staff and visitor car park plus a small amount of on street parking. As most staff parking is unallocated Optus required a system to guide staff arriving for work, to the available parks as quickly as possible. At the start of each work shift, there is a very high concentration of staff arriving in vehicles in a very short time period. To avoid long queues and congestion on access roads around the complex, a Metereye Smartspace Sign Guidance with full signage system was installed. This has significantly reduced the delays and congestion and greatly assisted of staff arriving at their workspaces in a timely fashion.
Sainsbury Supermarkets
Milton Keynes, UK
In late 2008 Sainsbury’s opened their new state of the art store in Milton Keynes as part of a major re-development of the area by Buckinghamshire Council which will eventually see the Milton Keynes population double in size.
At over 10,000m2 of floor space with 535 dedicated parking spaces in a purpose built underground facility including 26 disabled and 15 parent/child bays the site experiences significant traffic flow. As a flagship store it was important to provide shoppers with a streamlined and stress free parking experience while also maintaining control over time limits and infringing vehicles. The Metereye system accommodates this by providing full sign guidance as well as monitoring with integrated enforcement ticketing.
It merges seamlessly with the other physical aspects of the site and once commissioned was awarded Sainsbury’s Blue Tick of Quality Assurance for Parking.
